9/7 Green Bay Preble 49 - Lincoln 14

The highlight of the night?

42 points at halftime.  295 yards rushing by one running back.  At halftime.  I'm not quite sure how to write about getting shellacked.  It just stung to see all those fine young men getting steamrolled by a team that was more prepared, intense, and fundamentally sound.  And it happened at home.  We can't come out and play like this cat sounds.  And we won't.  Because if sports teach our youth anything, it's that you must learn from your mistakes; you are not judged when you fail - we all fail - but how you respond to that failure.  If I know anything about this team, it's that they will tackle, block, and be otherwise fundamentally sound Friday night.  And if they do that, I wouldn't want to be a Jaguar lining up across from them...

The week started off with some terrible news: the Ships' starting fullback will miss the remainder of the season due to an injury he suffered on the second-to-last play of the Southwest game.  Gah.

Prior to the game, the team announced to the media that they brought in a guru tackling coach to show the men a new way to tackle.  No word on whether that coach spent a copious amount of time living in the Green Bay area during his college years.

Quick - guess which one leads the Ships in sacks?  That was a trick question - both the Rock and the tastefully named Eric Berg have 2.  Eric is the little guy.

Hmmmm.  Looks like there are 9 Preble players behind the 3 Ships out front.  If my math is correct, that's not good.

The tastefully named Eric Berg has a wide-open look at destroying that running back.  Let's see what happens...

Aw shit.

METAPHOR ALERT! METAPHOR ALERT!  They couldn't have spelled out "L" any better.

Once again, they didn't think they'd need to block our end.  Once again, they were right.

The real highlight of the night came when Muscles took a quick hitter 70 yards for a score.

What impressed me, though, is that #44 (who had 296 yards rushing on the day) actually caught Muscles from behind. Thankfully, he dove for the tackle too early and Muscles Just got into the end zone.  I bet that's the first time he's ever been caught from behind in his life, though.
Young Fisch, what are you pointing at?

I know it's hard to take your eyes off of him, Austin, but let Muscles do his thing.

The Lode brought the hammer down at least once this game.
